A Little about Me & Commandment 1 of the Pre-Pregnancy Momma

I’m back from a two day getaway in Charleston (okay I tagged along while my man judged a High School Restaurant Competition!) and I’m feeling refreshed and inspired! I Wouldn’t expect anything less from the city in which I spent my first six years of adulthood in – a city that will always have a piece of my heart <3 ! Topping the Excitement List is this new blog! I can’t wait to connect with women in all areas of the Mommy Path, inspire Health & Wellbeing, and share my story – about what it means to be a
Pre-Pregnancy Momma!

So a little bit about me….I am 29 years old and living on the Coast of South Carolina and love it, especially on days like this that hint at the reality that Spring truly is right around the corner!  The sun is shining for us and it’s over 70!!! And my apologies to those of you up North and experiencing unthinkable amounts of snow – I don’t mean to rub it in, but it’s just that I don’t take this for granted either! I am a total pansy when it comes to cold weather so feel free to make fun of me when I am complaining about the temperature being in the 40s. I live with my handsome boyfriend of a year, whom I am madly in love with, and he has an amazing and handsome little boy that I adore and love spending time with! Just waiting for my man to put a ring on it. Lol! Single ladies in a long-term committed relationship I know you feel me here!!! He told me, It’s all about the surprise. (uh-huh) I tell myself that years from now I’m going to look back at the time period that I was waiting for him to propose and miss it; so I should enjoy it while it’s here. It’s working…for now.
I am a Certified Health Coach, recently graduated from the Institution of Integrative Nutrition, and for me it’s finally a career in which both purpose and passion collide. I remember being about 9 years old and my dad jokingly telling me that I should be a Professional Student. Well that just sounded awesome until I realized he was teasing! Still, until now it’s sort of been the only career that’s really stuck lol! That and server! So I work to inspire Healthy Living whether it’s working one-on-one, teaching nutrition classes, sharing Juice Plus, sharing and creating healthy recipes, and other fun stuff!
What else…I love doing yoga, am an avid runner, Health Nut, Choc-o-holic, sun-obsessed, hippie, cat-lover (and mommy to 2), free-spirit, bedroom dancer, sensitive, intuitive and introverted woman who probably forgot a million other things! Also you can read about the beginning of my Health Awakening here!

Anyway…
Despite the title of my Blog, you can tell from what I’ve told you about myself so far, that I am not trying to conceive or have a baby any time soon. And let me tell, you my man got very nervous when I told him I was writing about my Mommy Path! But that’s not what being a Pre-Pregnancy Momma is about. Within the next five years I see myself having kids, and the fact is that what I do today, especially when it comes to my own health, is going to affect my kids. So beyond preventing something bad, I want to do things today that will produce a positive effect for my future kiddos.

So I decided to come up with the 10 Commandments for the Pre-Pregnancy Momma and while they are centered on a woman who is not yet pregnant, I feel that all of them can be applied to any woman throughout Motherhood as they focus on creating a healthy lifestyle and body for Momma!  As I go through them I think you will agree!

Commandment One:  I will fight for Children’s Rights.

The Health nut in me finds this first commandment to be one of the less exciting ones to talk about, but it’s where I started to shift my thinking from self, “Mandy” to more selfless and future oriented.  Over a year ago I remember reading a lot about a particular hot topic and thinking to myself “Gosh I hope this gets resolved by the time I have kids”. Fairly normal thought, only it occurred to me that my ideal five year plan included kids and this wasn’t just an issue that was going to tie itself neatly into a bow by then. Five years was not that long of a time and all of a sudden I was hit with the possibility of being pregnant – and soon relative to my life-time. It was the first time that I thought about how something in the news would affect my kids, and I remember thinking that I needed to start advocating for this right – even though they weren’t even close to being born. I didn’t want to be fighting for this right while they were going through it, I wanted them to already have it.
So The First Commandment is to be an Advocate for Children’s Rights.  A Pre-Pregnancy Momma makes it a point to know what going on in the world and in the news, especially on issues concerning children. Whatever is important to you and how you want to raise your kids make sure now that you will be able to do it that way. Be involved in Children’s causes and support the local schools and community. Someday your child will be part of this world so it needs to be the best it possibly can and a Pre-Pregnancy Momma is one who makes it the best.

Now talk to me!! How are you getting involved in Supporting the Kiddos?? Did anything I wrote resonate with you?? Who are you and where are you from?? Let me know I’d love to connect!

with Love, Mandy
